As you already know Google launches the service which enables the user to call from gmail to any mobile or landline number, the calling to U.S & Canada is free and to other countries at a very nominal rates .On the first day of its launch Google claims that 1 million calls placed from this service in first 24 hours since the launch of the service, they claimed it in their recent tweet.
"Over 1,000,000 calls placed from Gmail in just 24 hours!" Google tweeted Thursday, evidently pleased with the number.
The calling is free to U.S & Canada only, but the Google didn't revealed that how much of them are paid however, it would be interesting to know those numbers as it would show whether users are only using this service because it is free or whether they are actually using it to call other countries too.
However, 1 million phone calls in 24 hours definitely looks like a success for Google and it would be interesting to see how much of a market share they can capture from other players in the market. Voice calls seem like a natural addition to Gmail, and if this first figure is any indication, Skype will soon have a very formidable competitor or may be as Skype killer.
